Tyson Fury fight viewers risk £1,000 fine for streaming Netflix without a TV Licence

Tyson Fury makes his return to the boxing ring to face Arslanbek Makhmudov at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this weekend. The bout will be streamed live on Netflix, and UK viewers will require an additional subscription to legally watch it on Saturday evening.
A TV license is required to watch any live event on streaming platforms such as YouTube, Amazon Prime Video, and Netflix. Regarding the latter specifically, the official website warns: “If you are watching a TV programme that is being broadcast live on Netflix, you need to be covered by a TV Licence”.

Tyson Fury has come out of retirement to face Russian boxer Arslanbek Makhmudov in a heavyweight clash in London on April 11. The fight will stream live on Netflix, which fans can get for free with Sky’s £15 Essential TV bundle or £24 Ultimate TV bundle, the latter of which also includes HBO Max and Disney+.
A basic £5.99 monthly Netflix subscription covers live events, but for those wishing to stream the Fury fight without a TV licence, it will cost £180 for the year or £15 on a monthly direct debit. It is worth noting that any viewer caught streaming the action on Netflix without a licence could face a fine of up to £1,000.

The Gypsy King’s forthcoming bout makes it two consecutive weekends of major boxing events, following Deontay Wilder’s victory over Derek Chisora — both men sharing notable histories with Fury.
Anthony Joshua was also present in the crowd, marking his first public appearance since being involved in a car crash in Nigeria back in December that tragically claimed the lives of his two close friends, Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami.

Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn was with Joshua and offered an update on his forthcoming plans. He said: “To be honest, we’ve been very focused about making the Tyson Fury fight. AJ did mention to me that he’s supporting Derek he thinks he’ll win, but if Deontay Wilder wins in style tonight, it opens a big fight with Anthony Joshua.”
Wilder did indeed triumph impressively, with a brief confrontation between him and AJ captured in the aftermath. However, a potential fight with Fury seemingly remains Joshua’s priority after the Gypsy King returned to the sport.
Back in February, Fury said: “The biggest turning point in this comeback for me was a tragedy that happened with Anthony Joshua.
“I was on holiday with my family in Thailand for Christmas, then I hear all that bad news that’s gone on, and I thought life is very, very short and very precious and very fragile and anything can happen at any given moment. You should never put things off until tomorrow or next year or next week because tomorrow is never promised to nobody.
“I made my mind up there and then that I’m going to come back to boxing because it’s something that I love and I’m passionate about and I’ve always been in love with, and there is no tomorrow to put it off too, so that’s why I’m back today for this big fight.”
