‘Holes’ appear on town centre road 24 hours after being resurfaced
Holes have appeared on a North Wales town centre route – 24 hours after it was resurfaced. The Maes in Pwllheli saw major works this month to re-do the road through the town centre – causing widespread disruption.
But a picture was shared showing holes on the newly laid surface. The photographer said they were taken a day after work was completed.
They have been described locally as ‘potholes’ but Cyngor Gwynedd says they aren’t potholes and are instead ‘isolated defects’. Sign up for the North Wales Live newsletter sent twice daily to your inbox
One person joked on social media “When you order road surfacing from Temu.” (A China based online marketplace known for its low prices)
A local resident told North Wales Live: “The surface was laid last Wednesday, the holes appeared sometime on Thursday afternoon / evening.
“They will probably just patch it up like they do with regular potholes, ironically I don’t think there was any there beforehand.”
Another said on Facebook: “We are all laughing here but none of us will be when they decide to do it again and close the whole town off in the middle of the season.”
In response a Cyngor Gwynedd spokesperson said: “We can confirm that Cyngor Gwynedd has undertaken work on the Maes, Pwllheli, and that this work has not led to any potholes.
“However as with any newly completed resurfacing work, it is not unusual for isolated defects to appear once the surface has settled and been exposed to traffic and weather.
“In line with our standard quality‑assurance procedures, the matter has been raised with the contractor and any necessary remedial work will be carried out ensuring the surface is restored to the required standard as quickly as possible.
“We remain committed to maintaining the county’s road network and ensuring that recently completed works meet the expected level of quality and durability.” Sign up now for the latest news on the North Wales Live Whatsapp community
