Area Chinese restaurant re-opens after passing Health Unit inspection
A popular Chinese food restaurant in downtown Powassan forced to close its doors in late March of 2025 due to seven critical infractions and five non-critical infractions initiated by the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit, has reopened on the weekend.
The China Garden Restaurant on Main Street in Powassan has been closed since March 26 due to infractions after an inspection was conducted that same day.
The North Bay & District Parry Sound District Health Unit posted on April 28 that the facility had passed its most recent inspection, and on May 2, the Powassan restaurant announced it was reopening.

A North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit closure note stated, “A re-inspection will be conducted to determine if the closure order can be lifted.”
Some of those included “evidence of pests, failure to protect food from contamination, and failure to ensure storage areas were clean,” among the six infractions identified by the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit.
Sources told BayToday that the restaurant had recently changed ownership.
The restaurant posted information on Facebook to make the public aware of the reopening.
“As we reopen, we want to remind everyone of our current menu,” the China Garden stated on social media.
“Lots of folks seem to have the old menu, which is super close, but a couple of our meals are slightly different.
