The family of a missing man in Malaysia have flown to the country after Merseyside Police issued an update yesterday. Jordan Johnson-Doyle, from Southport, hasn’t been heard from since Tuesday, May 27, while backpacking in Asia.

The 25-year-old’s last known location was the Healy Mac’s Irish Bar in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur, at around 8pm that day, when he sent his best friend Owen a photograph of the pub’s quiz night poster. He is also believed to have visited The Social, a bar near Healy Mac’s.

On Wednesday morning BST (seven hours behind Malaysia), his mum Leanne Burnett said she checked the “Find My iPhone” tracking service for the location of his mobile phone and saw it was located at a residential flat block near the bar.

Two days later, on Friday, May 30, his phone went dead. Leanne said: “I speak to Jordan every day, and I have him on find my iPhone, so I always have a look before I go to bed and when I wake up in the morning. But when I woke up on Wednesday morning, his Find My iPhone had not updated. It just said ‘last seen 11 hours ago’.

“It means it’s either out of signal or out of range. And this was the last place it had a signal. It was a block of flats in that same area, literally down the road from the bar.

“I carried on tracking him throughout the day, trying to phone him as well. I couldn’t get hold of him on Facebook or Instagram. If he does lose his phone, he usually messages me on Facebook or Instagram.

“But it just kept on showing at this location, and the ‘time last seen’ kept going up and up, and now the phone has gone off completely. It’s run out of battery.”

The software engineer has been backpacking by himself around the Mediterranean and south east Asia for around 18 months while working remotely for an American company. Yesterday, the ECHO reported how Merseyside Police confirmed it is working with Malaysian detectives in the hunt for Jordan following his disappearance.

He arrived in Malaysia on May 17 after previously visiting Vietnam and is believed to have been staying at the Robertson Residences in Bukit, Kuala Lumpur.

Now, his mum, as well other relatives, have travelled to the country to aid the search for Jordan more than a week on from his last sighting, posts on social media announced.

According to The New Straits Times, an English-language newspaper published in Malaysia, the country’s British High Commission has confirmed that it is helping the family of a UK citizen reported missing while travelling alone.

It also reported the Brickfields district police chief assistant commissioner, Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood, said a missing person report was lodged on June 2.

He said in a statement: “Those with any information on his whereabouts are urged to contact the nearest police station or reach out to Pantai police station chief assistant superintendent Khairul Nizam Ramle.”

A spokesperson for the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office told the ECHO: “We are supporting the family of a British man reported missing in Malaysia.”

Leanne said the Merseyside Police incident reference for anyone reporting a sighting to Merseyside Police was 519 of May 30, 2025. Her full appeal and contact details are here.
