MANILA, Philippines — World champions Chezka Centeno and Rubilen Amit falter at WPA World Women’s 9-Ball Championship in Jacksonville, Florida.

Centeno, reigning Women’s World 10-Ball champ, suffered a tough 1-3 loss to Russia’s Kristina Tkach in the quarterfinals.

Centeno started strong with a 4-0 win in the first set, but Tkach stormed back with wins of 4-3, 4-3, and 4-1 in the next three sets to beat the Filipino cueist.

“My fight for the World 9-Ball Championship title ends here—for now. I gave it my best this tournament, and overall, I felt good about how I was playing, especially considering I only switched to a new playing cue just last month,” Centeno said in her social media post.

Centeno previously beat Australia’s Meng-Hsia Hung 3-1 in the Last 16.

“I would have loved to advance to the semifinals, but that’s just pool. One moment you’re shooting great, and the next, things can change. There is still a lot of work to be done, and I know I need to dedicate more time to fully mastering my new cue,” Centeno added.

Amit’s reign ended with a 0-3 loss to China’s Liu Shasha.

Liu won 4-3, 4-2, and 4-0 to complete the sweep. TMT
