Hong Kong whistle-blower in AI app MediSafe saga arrested for alleged doxxing

The whistle-blower behind a suspected cheating scandal involving an award-winning medical prescription app developed by a student has been arrested for doxxing, the South China Morning Post has learned.

A source confirmed on Friday that Hailey Cheng Hei-lam, the student who rose to fame overnight last year after raising concerns about the MediSafe app’s development and patient privacy, was accused of disclosing personal data without consent to cause specified harm. She was apprehended on Thursday.

“Under caution, the arrested person admitted to using her personal social media account to post ‘doxxing’ content,” the source said.

Last year, Cheng came into the spotlight after raising concerns about whether a high school pupil could have created such a complex platform as MediSafe.

The mobile app was reportedly developed by a Form Four student from St Paul’s Co-educational College in Mid-Levels and commissioned by the student’s father, specialist doctor Ronnie Poon Tung-ping.

The app is a medication management system that uses AI to verify patient information and prevent prescription errors.
