Coronation Street and Emmerdale have been cancelled this evening, Tuesday 31 March, owing to the football.

Usually, Emmerdale broadcasts weeknights at 8pm followed by Coronation Street at 8:30pm in a ‘soaps power hour’. However, this week, the popular ITV soaps have experienced a major schedule shake-up owing to the football.

This week, rather than Coronation Street and Emmerdale broadcasting on Tuesday 31 March, they have been substituted by the England v Japan friendly match at Wembley Stadium with kick-off at 7:45pm.

This also means there will be no opportunity to watch the soaps earlier on ITV X as usually that evening’s broadcast is uploaded to the streamer from 7am.

To compensate for the absent episode this evening, Coronation Street will broadcast on Sunday 5 April, alongside its usual schedule, giving fans six episodes to watch throughout the week of Sunday 5 April to Friday 10 April, reports the Daily Star.

This follows as the soaps experienced another timetable disruption on Friday 27 March owing to the football. The soaps were substituted by the England v Uruguay fixture.

Nevertheless, the ITV soaps broadcast their postponed episodes on Sunday 29 March albeit at the earlier slot of 7pm and 7:30pm.

Yet enthusiasts rather welcomed the opportunity they could receive their soap quota on a Sunday evening. Taking to Twitter, now X, one individual commented: “What a treat watching Emmerdale and Corrie on a Sunday night!. Both episodes were fantastic! Tates vs Dingles just like old times… the Theo and Todd realisation hitting home….finally! well done to all! #corrie #emmerdale.”
