Amid a massive box office run, the discussions around the film continue to dominate social media, and now an old video of Janhvi from the film’s trailer launch has resurfaced and is now going viral.

The clip shows the actor praising director Buchi Babu Sana and crediting him for helping her bring her character to life. The video has gained renewed attention at a time when the filmmaker is facing criticism over the writing of her role in the film.

Janhvi Kapoor credited Buchi Babu Sana for her performance

During the trailer launch event, Janhvi Kapoor spoke about watching the Peddi trailer with the audience for the first time. She said it was a special moment for the entire team and expressed happiness at seeing the hard work and dedication of everyone involved reflected on screen.
When asked about preparing for the role and adapting to the character’s body language, language, and attitude, Janhvi made it clear that much of the credit belonged to director Buchi Babu Sana. She said, “When you review the film, whatever I have done, please attribute it to him. He used to give me very out-of-the-box directions. He would tell me what to do with the jeep, what to do with my skirt, how to speak. The manner and attitude of this character is very extraordinaryly different.”

Referring to him, she said that whatever she had managed to achieve in the role should be credited to the filmmaker. Janhvi explained that the director guided her through the process and helped shape her performance.
The actor also joked about Buchi Babu Sana’s personality, calling him the “most rowdy director in India.” She remarked that despite his calm appearance, he has an energetic and passionate side that became evident while working on the film.

Janhvi further described, “It was all Buchi, sir. Like he said, he looks like he’s Chui Mui. He’s the most rowdy director in India. It’s true, but honestly, it’s been an honour for me. I think this film has given me a lot. It’s given me such a superb trailer; it’s given me so much love from all of you. Hopefully, after 4th June, there will be even more love.”

Peddi faces criticism over Janhvi Kapoor’s character portrayal

The viral video comes at a time when Peddi is facing massive backlash online. Several viewers have criticised the way Janhvi Kapoor’s character, Achiyamma, has been written in the film.

Many social media users argued that the character lacks agency and contributes little to the narrative beyond serving as a romantic interest. Some viewers accused the film of objectifying the female lead and questioned certain scenes involving Ram Charan’s character, Peddi, and Achiyamma.

Interestingly, much of the criticism has been directed at the writing of the character rather than the performances of the actors or the film’s overall storytelling. Several users pointed out that they felt Achiyamma deserved a more substantial role within the narrative.

The debate has since expanded into a larger discussion about the representation of female characters in mainstream commercial cinema and whether leading women are often reduced to supporting figures in male-driven stories.

Director reacts to backlash

Amid the growing criticism, director Buchi Babu Sana recently addressed the controversy through a detailed post on X. The filmmaker acknowledged the feedback being shared by audiences and assured viewers that their concerns had been heard. He stated that the makers would make changes to the relevant portions of the film based on the response received from moviegoers.

The announcement has generated mixed reactions online. While some viewers appreciated the team’s willingness to listen to audience concerns, others felt the issue talks about a larger problem regarding the writing of female characters in big-budget films.

Peddi stars Ram Charan in the lead role alongside Janhvi Kapoor. The film also features Boman Irani, Divyenndu and Jagapathi Babu in pivotal roles. According to Sacnilk.com, the movie crossed the Rs 200 crore mark worldwide in just three days at the box office. Stay tuned!
