Chunghwa Telecom Will Add 6,500 Wi-Fi Hot Spots In Hong Kong
Taiwan’s Chunghwa Telecom plans to expand its Wi-Fi international roaming service map and will cooperate with Hong Kong’s Y5ZONE to add 6,500 Wi-Fi hot spots in Hong Kong.
Starting from October 2012, the two parties will launch the Wi-Fi hot spot distribution across Hong Kong. With this new move, Chunghwa Telecom’s emome and Hinet users will be able to use mobile phones, tablets, and laptops to access Y5ZONE’s 6,500 Wi-Fi hot spots when visiting Hong Kong.
Emome and Hinet users only need their accounts and passwords to access the service and do not need to apply for service opening in advance. The service fee will be charged by time without data traffic limitations .
Prior to this, Chunghwa Telecom cooperated with Hong Kong’s PCCW to provide Wi-Fi roaming service in Hong Kong from March 2012. PCCW has about 9,000 Wi-Fi hot spots in Hong Kong, covering convenience stores, chain cafes, railways, airports, shopping malls, telephone booths, and university campuses. The cooperation with Y5ZONE will further expand Chunghwa Telecom’s Wi-Fi roaming footprint in Hong Kong.
In 2011, Chunghwa Telecom also cooperated with China Telecom to provide such service, enabling Chunghwa Telecom’s users to access China Telecom’s 120,000 Wi-Fi hot spots.
