Aishwarya Rai Bachchan lights up Cannes red carpet with sculptural glamour, her iconic smile and a namaste. How many hours did it take to make the outfit?
Social media and Cannes followers have been waiting with bated breath for the diva of Bollywood, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, a constant face ever since 2003, to arrive and dish out style and oomph. And style she dished! Her appearance along with choice of the outfit was all about glam and glimmer with a warm namaste and her signature dazzling smile.
Bollywood star Aishwarya Rai Bachchan finally arrived at the Cannes Film Festival and instantly set the social media buzzing with her graceful presence. She grabbed the eyeballs as she stepped out in a sculptural blue gown by designer Amit Aggarwal. The moment felt like a release of built-up anticipation, with cameras turning sharply the second she appeared.
The actress greeted photographers with a graceful namaste before striking poses on the red carpet. She also shared the frame with fellow ambassador and actor Eva Longoria, making for a striking global star moment on the festival floor.
About her outfit at Cannes 2026
Her gown, titled Luminara, was designed in collaboration with stylist Mohit Rai as an exploration of radiance in motion. The couture silhouette was brought to life through the house’s signature Crystal Vein embroidery, where thousands of crystalline embellishments converge within sculptural lattice-like structures. This created a play of luminosity, depth and fluidity across the garment.
The design took more than 1500 hours of intricate craftsmanship to complete. It was rendered in an abyss blue inspired by cosmic light and infinite space, with every surface engineered to refract and transform with movement and changing illumination. The result was a structured yet fluid couture statement that shifted as she moved across the red carpet.
Aishwarya completed the look with a sheen dupatta, soft loose curls and makeup that leaned into pink tones with a bold red lip. Diamond-studded jewellery with blue stones added contrast and tied the entire look together with a refined sparkle.
As the day moved into evening, she shifted into a completely different mood for the Lights On Women’s Worth event. For this appearance, she wore a pastel pink gown with floral detailing and a flowing sheer cape by Sophie Couture. The change of palette from bold blue to soft pink brought a gentler, more romantic tone to her second red carpet outing.
Aishwarya’s association with Cannes
Aishwarya Rai has been associated with Cannes since 2002, when she represented Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Devdas at the Cannes Film Festival in 2002. She wore a traditional yellow saree by Neeta Lulla and instantly stood out for her fashion choice. It also marked a significant turning point for Indian representation. Since 2003, she has been associated with L’Oreal Paris as a global brand ambassador at Cannes.
The event also saw the presence of Eva Longoria, Ariana Greenblatt and Amy Jackson among others, adding to the global mix of talent celebrating women in cinema and fashion.
A special highlight of the evening was the presence of her daughter, Aaradhya Bachchan, who accompanied her. The 14-year-old wore a red gown with a shimmering cape, complementing the red carpet elegance of the night while standing alongside her mother for a public appearance together.
