‘I genuinely loved coding’: Techie who failed 30+ interviews shares journey from Rs 3.5 LPA to Rs 27 LPA

Career setbacks, repeated rejections, delayed opportunities, and uncertainty are experiences many young professionals face early in their careers. A software developer from a Tier-3 college in Pune recently shared a similar journey that has now gone viral online.
The developer explained how their salary grew from Rs 3.5 lakh per annum (LPA) to Rs 27 LPA after years of interview failures, unstable jobs, and financial struggles.
Struggled During Campus Placements
The developer, who graduated in 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic, described the beginning of their career as highly uncertain. According to the post, the techie failed nearly 30 to 35 placement interviews during college, which gradually impacted their confidence.
“But one thing I always knew was that I genuinely loved coding. Finally, I received an offer from CapG with a package of 3.8 LPA. But due to COVID, the joining kept getting delayed. I got the offer in March 2020, and the joining happened only in February 2021. For the first 6 months, the salary was around 20k, and even the location was unclear till the joining date,” the developer shared.
First Job at a Startup
In December 2020, the developer joined a startup as a Flutter developer with a salary package of 3.5 LPA, receiving nearly Rs 29,000 in hand.
The techie described this period as one of the most important learning phases of their career. After working there for around one-and-a-half years, they switched to another company with a package of 6 LPA, where they later received a 25 percent salary hike within a year.
Taking Another Career Risk
Despite having a stable role, the developer decided to take another chance by joining a friend’s startup for a monthly salary of Rs 45,000.“Eventually, I decided to switch again. This time, I prepared properly. Initially, I got rejected from companies offering around 12-13 LPA because I lacked confidence and depth in some areas. But instead of getting discouraged, I kept improving. I gave around 10-15 more interviews and finally got three offers around 15 LPA,” the techie said.

LinkedIn Opportunity Changed Everything
The biggest turning point came unexpectedly when a startup founder directly contacted the developer through LinkedIn. After multiple rounds of interviews, the techie secured an offer worth Rs 27 LPA.
“From someone who struggled to clear aptitude rounds to someone getting reached out directly by founders, life really came full circle,” the developer said.
