Kundi calls for joint efforts to ensure lasting peace in KP

Peshawar – Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi on Friday emphasized the need for collective efforts to ensure public welfare and lasting peace in the province. He expressed these views while addressing cooperation agreements signing ceremony between Pakistan Red Crescent Society and welfare, medical and educational institutions at Governor House. He also distributed relief cheques among affected families of Khyber and Kurram districts.
Addressing at the ceremony, the Governor said coordinated efforts between welfare and public service institutions could help provide better facilities to deserving patients, students and disaster-affected communities across the province. During the event, Pakistan Red Crescent signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with several organisations, including International University of Malaysia for provision of scholarships to deserving students from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
An agreement was also signed with Ittefaq Kidney Welfare Hospital under which dialysis facilities would be provided to 100 deserving patients of the province. Similarly, Sundas Foundation signed MoU with Pakistan Red Crescent to provide treatment and blood supply facilities to 100 patients, while another cooperation agreement was signed with North West Hospital.
A separate agreement with Web Rabbit Agency was aimed at improving and modernising the organisation’s web and social media operations.
Governor Kundi appreciated all partner institutions and said Pakistan Red Crescent had always remained at the forefront during emergencies, natural disasters and difficult situations, particularly in merged tribal districts despite limited resources.
Earlier, the Governor distributed relief cheques among affected families from Khyber and Kurram districts and said the organisation was continuing relief activities despite challenging security conditions in the merged areas. He said financial assistance of Rs38,000 per family was being provided to more than 1,700 affected families in Khyber district and over 1,000 families in Kurram district without any political discrimination by Red Crescent merged districts.
The Governor said relief goods and financial assistance had earlier also been distributed among affected people in Bajaur and added that the scope of humanitarian activities was being expanded with the support of donors.
Talking to media persons, Governor Kundi expressed hope that restrictions on wheat transportation to the province would soon be lifted, adding that issues related to provincial financial resources would also be taken up with the federal government after Eid. Expressing grief over incidents of terrorism in Bannu and Bajaur, he said restoration of peace and stability in the province remained the top priority and all stakeholders would jointly play their role for the province’s peace and prosperity.
Governor administers oath to
newly-appointed minister Adnan Qadri
Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi on Friday administered oath to newly-appointed provincial minister Muhammad Adnan Qadri at a ceremony held at Governor House Peshawar.
Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, members of the provincial cabinet and senior government officials attended the oath-taking ceremony.
Earlier, Chief Minister Sohail Afridi called on Governor Faisal Kundi. Former federal minister for religious affairs Pir Noor-ul-Haq Qadri, newly-appointed provincial minister Adnan Qadri and Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed were also present during the meeting.
During the meeting, the participants discussed the wheat supply suspension from Punjab and issues relating to closure of CNG stations in the province, and agreed on a joint struggle for safeguarding the rights of the province.
The Governor and Chief Minister termed the wheat supply suspension a clear violation of the Constitution and paid tribute to political parties for demonstrating unity on issues concerning provincial rights. They expressed hope that the federal government would fulfil its commitments regarding restoration of wheat supply from Punjab to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
The meeting also discussed the role of political parties and provincial leadership in raising the province’s case after Eid, besides exchanging views on the overall law and order situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
