Taiwanese smartphone maker HTC has announced plans to establish a new business department named “Studio”, aiming to reverse the company’s recent performance decline.

The new department will be formed by the most talented engineers and designers, and will be responsible for the development of important products. It will directly report to Peter Chou, chief executive officer of HTC. With the new department, HTC is expecting to once again outrun its competitors and make its products re-gain competitive advantages.

In addition, HTC will reportedly launch a series of new products, which will use parts and components made by various manufacturers, so as to improve its flexibility in competition. Prior to this, HTC’s Android smartphones only use chips made by Qualcomm; meanwhile, many of its competitors adopted Nvidia’s Tegra 2 chip on their high-end products last year, which brought adverse impacts on HTC.
